Get out of town: Hilton’s new ‘upscale and affordable’ hotel turns its back on CBD

The Hilton hotel chain will expand its presence in Brisbane, but has eschewed the CBD, announcing plans to open a 129-room Hilton Garden Inn at Spring Hill.

The new hotel – the latest in a trend towards locating upmarket accommodation in Brisbane’s inner suburban ring – will be at 32 McConnell St, within walking distance of the revamped Roma St station and the RNA.

The chain already has two Garden Inn hotels operating in Australia. Hilton, which is substantially expanding its presence in the middle class accommodation market, has more than 900 garden Inns operating around the world.

The Garden Inn brand markets itself as “upscale and affordable”, boasting such features as a 24 hour “grab and go” retail centre for essentials as well as a full service restaurant and bar.

Designed by local architectural firm Hayes Anderson Lynch, the 13-storey hotel is expected to open for business in 2024.

It will be run in partnership with the Spring Hill Property Group.

Brisbane’s luxury hotel market, once considered behind the times, has expanded considerably over the past decade, with most new establishments opting for key locations in the suburbs rather than the city centre.
